21 Guns - Single Tracklist:
Yup, this is the WORST Green Day song ever written, its so slow and boring, the hook is terrible it sounds like he is going through puberty. Obvious pandering to the military. THIS IS COMMERCIALISM
just a blan, unimaginative release that has nothing to contribute except the catchy melodic chorus (that they stole from Electric Light Orchestra's "Telephone Line" to the T). not worth the 5 year wait, not even better than the incredibly annoying and repetitive "Know Your Enemy"
For all of you who say this is not their best work or I'm a hard core GD fan but give a four star review, then your are obviously not a true hard core fan because a hard core fan will appreciate their music even if it isn't the same as dookie or insomniac, ok w/e it's still amazing music from an amazing band, so if you call your self a hard core fan but hate their new music, then you obviously are not and don't appreciate great music. Nuff said
But they need to get over the fact that it's not the best song they've ever released, and people won't like more if they release it ten million times. I'm sure that there will be a 21 Guns Single.
It's not about what you think! It follows the story of Gloria and Christian-- a couple. They are in a divorce. That's why it says "Give up the fight". It you took the time to listen to 21st Century Breakdown, you would understand how 21 Guns goes along with the album. Albums like 21st Century Breakdown are called "concept albums", which tell a story. Anyway, it's not about the war and government. Hope this helps!
I thought these guys were punk. This is so weak! I bought this because I heard it on the radio and I liked the flow of the song. Once I listend to the lyrics I discoverd they are trying to convince our soldiers to surrender to the enemy because it is better to surrender than fight for freedom and our way of life.? So the point is to quit? Really? Are you sissys going to put flowers in the gunbarrels too? Maybe you will put a "arms are for hugging" bumper sticker on the back of your Prius. There you have it. These guys are officially a bunch of government sellout douch bags.
Usually when a band makes a remake of a song, its trash, and it destroys how good the original is. This is not the cas here. 21 Guns(feat. The Cast of :American Idiot") is as good, if not better than the original. Buy!
I have read a lot of the reviews and everyone is confused why they made the EP for 21 guns. The people they recorded the new one with is the cast from Green Day's new musical that is debuting on Broadway in April.
This song has been re-released and re-recorded to promote their transfer of their musical American Idiot (yes- based off of the album of the same name) to BROADWAY. It's almost an identical production team to the production team that did Spring Awakening, including 2 Spring Awakening alumni- John Gallagher Jr, and Brian Charles Johnson. Before you question why it's been released so many times, understand WHY they're re-releasing it.
This is EASILY one of the best songs of the past decade. It uses both acoustic and electric guitars, has good bass, and great drums. The lyrics are outstanding and have a powerful anti-war message that is not disrespectful to the troops. The vocals are excellent as Billie Joe hits both higher and lower notes, while putting emotion into it. Lyrics: Do you know what's worth fighting for when it's not worth dying for? Does it take you're breath away, and you feel yourself suffocating? Does the pain weigh out the pride and you look for a place to hide? Did someone break your heart inside? You're in ruins (Chorus) One, 21 Guns, lay down your arms, give up the fight One, 21 Guns, throw up your arms into the sky, you and I When you're at the end of the road And you've lost all sense of control And your thoughts have taken their toll, and your mind breaks the spirit of you soul Your faith walks on broken glass And the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last, You're in ruins (Chorus) (Bridge) Did you try to live on your own When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone When it's time to live and let die And you can't get another try Something inside this heart has died, You're in ruins (Chorus) (Chorus) (Chorus)
OMG this is an amazing band and song...to be honest they have came a long way so come show the <3 ans support them. Like me,true fans buy 4 copies just like twilight but green day is better than that.
I would like to say crazy scotts, biggoathorns are right green day is for 14 teen year old girls who want to be rockers and punks who play squires. green day give up you had two good albums, then you tried to get "rebellious"
I just love this song and I ran and got my laptop when I saw it on the Grammy's. If you listen closely to the song, Green Day is talking about trying to get out of fight so it won't happen. Good moral. :) And please, don't insult people for liking this song. I also like this song because it's a CLEAN Green DAy song. I really like Holiday, Blv. Of Broken Dreams, and American Idiot, but please, we need more clean Green Day songs like Wake me Up When Sept. ends. -Question Marx
I just wanted to say I first heard them play together on the grammies and I thought it was awesome. I mean greenday did such a good job with the song period and for them to add the cast made it even better. Some ppl add other people their songs and end up killing the song, but it wasnt the case with this song. I can h ear this song over and over. I can't wait to see the play.
For being orchestrated, and reutilized, this is a nice venture and route to Green Day's ever growing story-telling abilities! Very well done! (also, see the version with JUST the original stage cast [i.e. John Gallagher Jr. replacing Billie on Vocals])
I'v been thinking about buying this song for a while, but it just seemed a little to thin of a sound to waste my money on. Now that the American Idiot version is out, I bought it right away! IT'S A GREAT BUY!!!! x) Glee fans will love it.
I saw the preformance for this about an hour ago, and I loved it. I have to admit i had my doubts about it, but I was proved wrong. I love the original version, but for some reason I feel that this version is really uplifting in a way. I will always love Green Day, new or old stuff. I love them to death. Their music has helped me so much. If they ever come to your city, I highly recomend seeing them.

A nice "Broadway" version of "21 Guns" from Greenday's Broadway Musical "American Idiot" which recently wrapped up a run in Berkeley California before heading to New York. This song features the cast singing the song along with Greenday. The New York show is slated to open in April. The musical features all of the songs from "American Idiot" along with a few other songs including several from 21st century Breakdown, and the Curtain Call song, "Good Riddance (Time of your Life)". Can't wait to hear the rest of the soundtrack released.
